Dear friends,

Anand Niketan is happy to announce the setting up of a special rehabilitation center for the earthquake affected to provide –

1. Free boarding, lodging facility and also free education to the quake affected children in the age group of 3 years to 12 years up to 18 years of age at Anand Niketan School.

We have a large campus near Shilaj with facilities for education, food and basic medical facilities. Please feel free to send anyone who, you think, needs help along with an authority letter and a responsible person to complete formalities.

• The annual cost of the daily requirement of boarding and lodging for 200 children comes to Rs 15,00,000/-. At present we are running a school. We have plans to construct our own residential block which will cost more than Rs.50 lacs with land & development.
• This task is very challenging. However, we would not be able to carry out this noble task without the wholehearted assistance of generous people like you. Hence we are approaching you for your much valued co-operation and magnanimous assistance which will go a long way in alluviating the sufferings of these unfortunate children.

SCHEMES FOR SPONSORSHIP OF EARTHQUAKE AFFECTED CHILDREN

1. If I contribute Rs. 7500/- I am sponsoring 1 child for one year’s education, Food, cloths etc.
2. If I contribute Rs. 20,000/-. I am sponsoring 1 child for 5 year’s food (4000 x 5).
3. If I contribute Rs. 12,500/- . I am sponsoring 1 child for 5 year’s education (2500 x 5).
4. If I contribute Rs. 5,000/- I am sponsoring 1 child for 5 year’s medicines, clothes, etc. (1000 x 5).
5. If I contribute Rs.1,00,000/- F.D.R. I am sponsoring 1 child. The interest will cover the cost of one child’s food, education, cloths etc.( the F.D.R can be for 5, 7, 10 years.)
6. If I contribute Rs. 1,00,000/- I am sponsoring one unit for accommodation of one mother and eight children.

Project Synopsis

Genesis
The earthquake of January 26, 2001 has caused severe devastation in different parts of Gujarat. Thousands have been rendered homeless, or lost their near and dear ones in the quake. Rising to this occasion, the Utthan Sewa Sansthan has opened a rehabilitation centre named ‘Anand Niketan Rehabilitation centre’ to provide unconditional help and support to the victims of the calamity.

A major cause of concern to us is that thousands of children have become destitute overnight. Secondly, as an education institute we realised that the earthquake brought schools to a halt. Most of these destitute students will either drop out of school or are likely to loose at least 2 to 3 years of schooling.

The mission of ANRC is:

• To provide unconditional help and support to the victims of calamity on a short term basis;
• As a priority to provide immediate help both physically and emotionally to these young, innocent, traumatised children, so that they do not lose their hopes and lives. We have also decided to meet this challenge and adopt such children with a commitment to rehabilitate, educate and provide life skills to them;
• In the long term to evaluate, plan and contribute towards a long term strategy for an overall educational process in the disaster affected region of Gujarat.

Immediate objectives

1. To provide accommodation to quake affected victims who are rendered homeless or have badly damaged homes.
2. To provide free boarding, lodging facility and also free education to the quake affected children in the age group of 3 years to 12 years up to 18 years of age at Anand Niketan School.

How can you assist us?

1. Give your home to the quake affected victims;
2. Adopt quake affected victims for a specified period of time;
3. Offer yourself for voluntary service;
4. Adopt / sponsor a child;
5. Provide legal and technical guidance in the process of adoption;
6. Resource mobilisation for this activity and;
7. Donate generously for this noble cause in name of "Utthan Sewa Sansthan", Ahmedabad (100% exempted under Sec 80/G).

It is proposed to create a corpus fund of Rs. 75,00,000/- to ensure availability of resources for 100 students. It is proposed to have a FDR with a recognized Bank to ensure that the interest on the corpus generates adequate resources to meet the above needs. All FDR would be refunded to the concerned donors at the end of the required period( the maximum period being 10 years )

Brief Note on 'Utthan Sewa Sansthan'(USS)

USS was registered in 1995 as a Charitable Trust with an objective of providing stress free and enjoyable learning experience. USS currently runs a Day Boarding School, 'Anand Niketan',. The school started in 1996 with only 20 children and 2 classes. By the year 2000 the school had 360 children and 16 classes. The school is dedicated to providing children with a stress free and enjoyable learning experience. Anand Niketan is spread over 4 acres of rolling landscaped gardens away from the hustle bustle of city life, and yet close enough not to cut off.

USS is managed by a group of Trustees :-

Mr. Kamal Mangal - age 41 years, is the Managing Trustee and is devoted full time to the School and other social activities of the Trust.
Mr. S P Mangal - age 65 years is a Trustee and is devoted full time to the School.
Mr. R S Agrawal - age 60 years is a Trustee and Chairman of Globe Transport Co. Pvt. Ltd.
Mr. Girdhar Mangal - age 30 years is a Trustee and is Proprietor of Paper Palace Trading, India dealing with Paper.
Mr. S S L Agrawal - age 65 years is a Trustee and Director of Maharaja Agrasen Vidyalaya.
Mr. Praful Agrawal - age 40 years is a Trustee and Director of Agrawal Construction Co. and is in the building construction business.
Mr. J K Gupta - age 60 years is a Trustee and Chairman of Kalptaru Paper Mills.
