Medicos caught stealing
AHMEDABAD: Bollywood blockbuster 'Munnabhai MBBS' saw a criminal wanting to be a doctor. On Saturday, the city saw a reversal of roles when two medical students were caught trying to steal a car stereo. It was high drama on Saturday night when a person, who had parked his car near Gujarat College returned, to find its front doors open and two youngsters sitting inside. He raised an alarm, which led to a crowd gathering and beating up the two. It was only when they were taken to the Ellisbridge police station that their identity was revealed - they were MBBS students, staying in the VS Hospital hostel.

From a tea stall in Amreli to Hollywood
RAJKOT: From a tea stall in Khijadia railway station, outside Amreli, comes the story of Nalin Pandya (43) who is making Hollywood stand up and take notice of him. They call him Pan Nalin. His latest feature film 'Valley of Flowers' has been pre-sold in 40 countries and already won awards at film festivals in Los Angeles and New York. It has Milind Soman and Naseeruddin Shah acting with French and Japanese actresses. The bright lights of Hollywood was the last thing on Nalin's mind as he served tea from his father's canteen as a young boy.

4 out of 4 int'l film awards go to Gujarat
AHMEDABAD: A boy and girl look at each other from across the classroom, smile and the communal boundaries separating them melt away. This two-minute film without dialogues, shot on a mobile phone, touched thousands of hearts across the world recently. But its achievements were much larger. All the four films selected to represent India on Pangea Day, one of the biggest mobile phone competitions in the world held on Saturday, came from Gujarat! Out of four movies, three were made in small town Halol near Vadodara and Sanosara near Bhavnagar, including Sajid Memon's film on communal harmony. The other three are Anmol Dharmadhikari from Mumbai who is working in Halol, Noor Rathod from Halol, Panchmahals and Jessica Mayberry from the USA, working in Ahmedabad. Memon is from Sanosara, Bhavnagar.

fake notes worth Rs 70,000
AHMEDABAD: After busting a nation-wide fake currency racket earlier this month, crime branch officials arrested two persons in the last couple of days with fake currency notes worth Rs 70,000 from near CU Shah college and GSRTC bus stop at Gita Mandir. Dipesh Mehta, a resident of Kheda, had purchased the currency notes from Rasik Patel, a resident of Bhavnagar, said police officials. According to crime branch officials, they got a tip-off about a person selling fake currency notes near CU Shah Arts college, Lal Darwaza.

e-diagnosis in all villages
Ahmedabad: On the back of successful launch of its "e-gram" initiative, under which villages have been offered broadband connectivity, the Gujarat government's health department has announced an e-medicine scheme for rural areas. The programme entails offering online and telemedicine facilities to villagers. "We are waiting for the panchayat department to cover all 18,000 villages in the state under the e-gram initiative. Once this is done, we are planning to use the broadband connectivity to initiate an e-medicine programme wherein we will set up e-cardio testing and e-diagnosis facilities. All villages will have these facilities over a period of two years," said state Health Minister Jay Narayan Vyas. The department will install web cameras and other infrastructure for distant diagnosis.

Seagate to digitise Kutchhi traditional crafts
Ahmedabad: Seagate Joins hands with Kala Raksha, an NGO. World leader in design, manufacture and marketing of hard disc drives and storage solution company Seagate Technology announced support for a programme to help digitally preserve and maintain the dying traditional craft forms in the Kutch region of Gujarat. The project involves extensive digitisation of images, documents, instruments, instructions and other items to preserve the techniques, process, materials, designs and motifs used in the textile traditions of Kutch. The programme is being administered by Kala Raksha, a Kutch-based non-governmental organisation (NGO). The joint digital preservation programme will span two phases, including research, archiving and digital capture, as well as programme development, exhibition and scolarships. (BS)

ગાંધીનગર: ગુજરાતના મહાનગરો, નાના શહેરો તેમજ શહેરી વિકાસ સત્તામંડળોના વિસ્તારમાં નવી ટાઉનપ્લાનિંગની સ્કીમોમાં વિકાસ પરવાનગી વખતે ૫૦ ટકા જમીન કાપી લેવાના શહેરી વિકાસ વિભાગના આદેશથી ગુજરાતભરમાં બિલ્ડર્સ તેમજ ડવલપર્સે વિરોધ કરતાં રાજ્ય સરકારે આજે તેઓની માગણીઓના સંદર્ભમાં એવું કહ્યું હતું કે ૫૦ ટકા જમીન કપાતનો નિર્ણય મરજીતાય રહેશે. એટલું જ નહીં સરકારના આદેશમાં કોઇ ગેરસમજ ફેલાતી હશે તો નવા આદેશથી તેની જાણ કરવામાં આવશે. રાજ્યના તમામ શહેરોની જમીન કપાતમાં એકસૂત્રતા લાવવાના ઉદ્દેશથી શહેરી વિકાસ વિભાગે આ આદેશ આપ્યો હતો.

માધ્યમિક સ્કૂલોમાં ૯મી જૂનથી નવા શૈક્શણિક સત્રનો પ્રારંભ થશે
ગાંધીનગર: ગુજરાતમાં માધ્યમિક અને ઉચ્ચતર માધ્યમિક શાળાઓના નવા વર્ષના શૈક્શણિક સત્રનો કાર્યક્રમ જાહેર કરી દેવામાં આવ્યો છે. રાજ્યના શિક્શણ વિભાગે આપેલી તારીખ પ્રમાણે નવું શૈક્શણિક પ્રથમ સત્ર ૯મી જૂનના રોજ શરૂ થશે જે ૧૯મી ઓક્ટોબર સુધી ચાલશે, દિવાળી વેકેશન બાદ બીજુ સત્ર ૧૦મી નવેમ્બરે શરૂ થશે અને ત્રીજી મે-૨૦૦૯ સુધી ચાલશે. દરમ્યાન ૩૧મી મે-૨૦૦૮માં રિસોર્સ પર્સનને શિક્શક પ્રશિક્શણની તાલીમ આપવામાં આવશે જે બીજી જૂન સુધી રહેશે, ત્યારબાદ ચોથી જૂન થી ૭મી જૂન સુધી શિક્શકોની વિષયવાર તાલીમ યોજવામાં આવનાર છે.

અમદાવાદ, દિલ્હી, મુંબઈ એરપોર્ટ પર લેન્ડિંગ માટે નવી પદ્ધતિ અપનાવાશે
નવી દિલ્હી: દિલ્હી અને મુંબઈ જેવા ભારતીય વિમાની મથકો પર ટ્રાફિક જામ હોય ત્યારે લેન્ડિંગ કરવા માગતા વિમાનોએ આકાશમાં ચક્કર લગાવવા પડે છે, એનાથી કંટાળીને ત્રાસી ગયેલા ઉતારુઓને રાહત આપવા અમેરિકા વ્હારે આવી રહ્યું છે. ગયા શુક્રવારે અમેરિકન એરોસ્પેસના બોઇંગે ભારતીય સત્તાવાળાઓને પોતાની કાર્યકુશળતાનો અનુભવ કરાવ્યો હતો. જ્યારે એરપોર્ટ પર પાર્ક્ડ વિમાનો ગીચોગીચ ઊભા હોય ત્યારે એરપોર્ટ પર ટૂંકી જગ્યામાં કઈ રીતે ત્વરિત ઉતરાણ કરવું અને એ માટે એરસ્પેસનો અસરકારક ઉપયોગ કેમ કરવો એની કુનેહ શીખવી હતી. ભારતીય સત્તાવાળાઓએ જુલાઈના પ્રારંભ સુધીમાં નવી પદ્ધતિ અપનાવવાનું શરૃ કરવાનું નક્કી કર્યું છે અને પ્રથમ તબક્કામાં દિલ્હી, મુંબઈ અને અમદાવાદ એમ ત્રણ અતિ ભીડભાડવાળા એરપોર્ટ પર એનો અમલ કરવામાં આવશે. એ માટે પાઈલોટ અને એરટ્રાફિક કન્ટ્રોલ અને એરપોર્ટ ઓથોરિટી વગેરેને એક-બે મહિનામાં નવી પદ્ધતિથી માહિતગાર ને તાલીમબદ્ધ કરાશે
