AMC collects Rs 20 crore as professional tax
Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has collected Rs 20.26 crore in its first collection of professional tax since April 1 this year. The largest collection has come from west zone which is central business district of the city. The zone itself had brought about a collection of Rs 7.76 crore in professional tax till Saturday.

States contend to become Nanoland
After Ratan Tata pulled out of Singur, other states are lining up to cash in on the opportunity. From Karnataka to Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, every state is hoping to roll out the small car - Nano. Gujarat is still a strong contender with good investment track record. An added advantage is the Mundhra port, which is being upgraded for exporting Maruti cars.

Navratri: It's traffic cops' night out
AHMEDABAD: Till October 8, all leaves for city cops stand cancelled . The reason is Navratri. What means celebration to most, has translated into picketing and patrolling for city police officials, especially the traffic cops, who have been asked to report to important garba venues across the city. The traffic policemen will bear the brunt. The 827 traffic policemen have been posted at GMDC ground for the traffic management. According to sources, on Tuesday half of the staff manned the route from airport to the ground - which brought VVIPs and VIPs including politicians and business community to the mega event.

Gujarat to be home to all 51 Shaktipeeths
Ahmedabad: Gajjar mountain to have a three-km ‘parikrama’ path with stopovers showcasing the original Shaktipeeths It will be altogether a different experience for the devotees of goddess Durga, as Gujarat will now be home to all the 51 Shaktipeeths that hold immense importance in the Indian mythology and that too at a single stop destination. The Rs 18 crore project will be constructed at the Gajjar mountain, some two-and-a-half km from Ambaji, one of the prominent Shaktipeeths of the country.

Heavy security after Modasa blast
Palanpur: (Gujarat), Sep 30 (IANS) North Gujarat towns and areas near the border with Pakistan were placed under extra security Tuesday, a day after a blast in Modasa town killed a boy, as the popular Navratri festival of Hindus got underway. Unprecedented security prevailed from the international border at Suigam in Banaskantha dsitrict to Modasa in Sabarkantha district in the northeast and from Ambaji temple town in Banaskantha to Bahucharaji in Mehsana in the southeast.

State prefers D Rajagopalan as chief secretary
Gandhinagar: He supersedes three of his senior colleagues; in 2003 too, the Modi Govt had appointed a junior officer as the CS. D Rajagopalan is the new chief secretary of the Gujarat government. On Tuesday, this 1974-batch IAS officer replaced Manjula Subramaniam, who retired from the civil service. She has been made the State Vigilance Commissioner. Rajagopalan has superseded at least three of his senior colleagues. This is for the second time that the Narendra Modi government has appointed a junior officer like Rajagopalan as the chief secretary.

Police find 17 crude bombs in Ahmedabad
AHMEDABAD: The bomb scare in Gujarat refuses to die down. Seventeen newly-made crude bombs were found in Kalupur area of the Walled City on Monday, The crude bombs found near Kalupur Darwaza area in Ahmedabad. On Monday at 8am, corporation's sweeper Savitaben Chavda spotted the 'sutli' (crude) bombs inside gunnybags in a garbage bin at Kot Ni Rang in the Walled City in Kalupur. "They are called sutli bombs because they were tied up in jute strings," a senior police officer said. The discovery of crude bombs packed with fresh nails for use as shrapnel in paan masala boxes left the cops deeply worried.

Lessons in terror management
Ahmedabad: Joint panel of V-Cs resolves to make it an integral part of curriculum. The Joint Committee of Vice-
Chancellors of all universities in Gujarat today resolved to make the study of terrorist strikes: their prevention and management, a mandatory part of the curricula in every university in the state. In a unanimous resolution passed at its meeting on Tuesday, the committee also resolved to consider students linked to terror activities as terrorists and not students.

Corporates look towards Gujarati film industry
Mumbai/ Ahmedabad: Finally, corporates seem to have developed a liking for Gollywood, or Gujarati film industry. While Anil Ambani-controlled Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) and Ultra Movies have already entered into Gujarat film production, Cinemax is weighing options to venture into films in Gujarati language. Ultra Movies has already made one Gujarati film sometime back and Cinemax is also talking to few players to produce Gujarati films, well-known Gujarati film director Govindbhai Patel said while announcing a Gujarati film Dholi Taro Dhol Vage, which is produced by Big Pictures, a part of ADA Group. It is the first regional movie to be released by ADA Group. The film is slated for release on 28 October this year.

Gujarat human rights commission seeks 'autonomous body' status
Ahmedabad: The state human rights commission has written to the state government seeking an autonomous status. Constituted in July 2006 by the Gujarat government, which was under severe attack for alleged human rights violation in the wake of the post Godhra riots, the state commission, in its maiden report tabled in the state Assembly last week, had sought an autonomous status to perform in a more effective manner. In the preface of the first report, state human rights commission chairman Daya Saran Sinha has said of the 52 approved strength of staff, so far only 33 recruitments have been made.

Tata team meets Modi on Nano
Ahmedabad: Mundra on radar for plant relocation. Tata Motors, which suspended work at the Nano plant in West Bengal's Singur in view of continued confrontation at the site early this month, has held talks with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi over relocating the facility to the state. In a closed-door meeting held at Modi's official residence on Saturday afternoon, a team of Tata Motors officials led by managing director Ravi Kant discussed setting up the project in Gujarat. After Tata Motors officially announced the suspension of construction and commissioning of work at the Nano plant at Singur on September 2, several states, including Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, invited the auto-maker to set up plant for the world's cheapest car.

૨જી ઓક્ટોબર, રાષ્ટ્રપિતા મહાત્મા ગાંધીજીનો જન્મદિવસ. આ દિવસે રાષ્ટ્રીય રજા પડતી હોવાથી આપણે આ દિવસને યાદ રાખી શક્યા છીએ. પરંતુ ગાંધીજી પ્રેરિત કેટલીક સંસ્થાઓ ગાંધીજીના મૂલ્યો અને વિચારોનું નિર્વાણ કરવાનું કૃત્ય કરી રહી છે ત્યારે કોઈ પણ સંવેદનશીલ વ્યક્તિથી બોલાઈ જશે ‘હે રામ’. વાત ‘નવજીવન ટ્રસ્ટ’ની છે. નવજીવન ટ્રસ્ટ દ્વારા ગાંધીજીની આત્મકથાના અંગ્રેજી અનુવાદની ૧૩ લાખ, ૨૯ હજાર નકલો પ્રસિદ્ધ કરવામાં આવી છે. છેલ્લે ૨૦૦૭માં પ્રસિદ્ધ કરેલ ૫,૦૦૦ અંગ્રેજી આત્મકથામાંથી ‘ભગવદ્ ગીતા’ના શ્લોકો તથા દેવનાગરીમાં ‘નિર્બલ કે બલરામ’ શિર્ષક સુદ્ધા ઉડાડી દેવામાં આવ્યા છે ! કોઈ પણ આત્મકથામાંથી કોઈ પણ ભાગની કાપકૂપ નૈતિકતાના ધોરણે સ્વીકૃત નથી. ગાંધીજી નૈતિકતામાં માનતા હતા, પરંતુ ગાંધીજીની જ સંસ્થા ‘નવજીવન ટ્રસ્ટ’ આજે નૈતિકતાને ખીંટીએ ટિંગાડી રહી છે.

ડી. રાજગોપાલન મુખ્ય સચિવ ૪ આઈએએસની બદલી-બઢતી
ગાંધીનગર: રાજ્યના વહીવટીતંત્રના સર્વોચ્ચ પદ એવા મુખ્ય સચિવ પદે ડી. રાજગોપાલનની નિમણૂક કરવામાં આવી છે. તેઓ તા.૩૦-૯-ર૦૦૮ના વયમર્યાદને કારણે નિવૃત્ત થતા મુખ્ય સચિવ ડો. મંજૂલા સુબ્રમણ્યમના અનુગામી બન્યા છે. ઉપરાંત સરકારે ચાર આઈએએસ અધિકારીની બદલી-બઢતી કરી છે. ૧૯૭૪ની બેચના સનદી અધિકારી પ૯ વર્ષીય ડી.રાજગોપાલને તેમની કારકિર્દીની શરૃઆત મદદનીશ કલેક્ટર,રાજકોટ તરીકે કરી હતી. ત્યારબાદ જામનગર અને અમરેલી જિલ્લાના વિકાસ અધિકારી તરીકે સેવાઓ આપી હતી.મોરબી પૂર હોનારત વખતે અધિક કલેક્ટર પૂર રાહત તરીકે રાજકોટ જિલ્લામાં સેવાઓ આપી હતી. એમ.એસ.સી. ફિઝિક્સની ડિગ્રી ધરાવતા રાજગોપાલનને ડાંગ અને ભાવનગરના કલેક્ટર તરીકે, જી.એસ.આઈ.સી.ના મેનેજિંગ ડિરેક્ટર તરીકે તથા રોજગાર અને તાલીમ નિયામક તરીકે તેમની સેવાઓ આપી છે. તેમણે ૧૯૮૬ ૧૯૯૧ સુધી ત્યારબાદ ૧૯૯૬ થી ર૦૦૧ સુધી ભારત સરકારના વિવિધ વિભાગોને વડોદરા મ્યુનિસિપલ કમિશ્નર તરીકે, સરદાર સરોવર નર્મદા નિગમમાં પુનઃ વસવાટ એજન્સીના સી.ઈ.ઓ તથા કમિશનર તરીકે, ગુજરાત માર્ગવાહન વ્યવહારની એમ.ડી. તરીકે તથા જી.આઈ.ડી.સી.ના એમ.ડી. તરીકે સેવાઓ આપવા ઉપરાંત ઉદ્યોગ વિભાગના અગ્રસચિવ પદે ઉદ્યોગ વિભાગમાં જ બઢતી સાથે અધિક મુખ્ય સચિવ તરીકે સેવાઓ આપી છે.

પોલીસ ઈન્સ્પેક્ટરોને જાતે જ ગરબાનું ચેકિંગ કરવા આદેશ
અમદાવાદ: અમદાવાદમાં શ્રેણીબધ્ધ બોમ્બ વિસ્ફોટો પછી નવરાત્રીના પ્રથમ દિવસે પોલીસના સઘન ચેકીંગ વચ્ચે અનેક ગરબાપાર્ટીઓમાં ખેલૈયાઓ મોડા પડ્યા હતા.
આતંકવાદીઓ નાપાક ઈરાદા પાર પાડવા પ્રયાસ કરે તેવી સંભાવનાઓના પગલે ગરબાઓ પોલીસ ઈન્સ્પેક્ટરોને ચેકિંગ કરે પછી જ ચાલો કરવાનો આદેશ કરવામાં આવ્યો છે.

વાઇબ્રન્ટ નવરાત્રી મહોત્સવનો દબદબાભેર થયેલો પ્રારંભ
મોદીમાં પ્રશાસક અને ઇવેન્ટ મેનેજમેન્ટનો સમન્વય છે : અડવાણી. વાઇબ્રન્ટ ગુજરાત નવરાત્રિ મહોત્સવનો મંગળવારે ગુજરાત યુનિ.ની જગ્યામાં દબદબાભેર દેશ-વિદેશના આમંત્રિતોની ઉપસ્થિતિમાં પ્રારંભ થયો હતો. લોકસભામાં વિપક્ષના નેતા એલ. કે. અડવાણીએ ગુજરાતનો ગરબો ગ્લોબલ બને તે દિશામાં પ્રયાસ થઈ રહ્યો હોવાનું જણાવ્યું હતું. મુખ્યમંત્રી નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ કહ્યું હતું કે આતંકવાદ વિશ્વને છિન્નાભિન્ના કરી રહ્યો છે ત્યારે પ્રવાસન વિશ્વને એક કરવાનું કામ કરે છે તે થકી વિશ્વભરમાં ગરબાને લઇ જઇ પ્રવાસનને વેગ અપાશે. ગુજરાત ઇન્ડસ્ટ્રીયલ ફેસ્ટીવલ સોસાયટી અને ગુજરાત સરકાર આયોજિત નવરાત્રિ મહોત્સવ લોકો માટે ખુલ્લો મુકાયો હતો. અડવાણીએ આ પ્રસંગે જણાવ્યું હતું કે, મોદી વર્ષોસુધી સંગઠનમાં જોડે રહ્યા છે અને તેઓ જેમ સંગઠનનું કામ કરતા હતા તે રીતે જ શાસક તરીકે પણ વહીવટ કરીને એક પ્રશાસક અને ઇવેન્ટ મેનેજમેન્ટનો અદ્ભુત સમન્વય કરી રહ્યા છે. રાજયના ઉધોગજગતને પણ તેમણે અભિનંદન આપ્યા હતા.
